A.P. Moller-Maersk has accelerated its commitment to achieving carbon neutral operations, moving the target date from 2050 to 2040.
The company announced a $10 billion investment in green methanol-powered vessels and shore-side infrastructure over the next decade. This includes orders for 25 new container ships capable of running on carbon neutral fuel.
"Climate change demands bold action," said Maersk's CEO. "We're not just decarbonizing our own operations—we're helping build the infrastructure for an entire industry to transition."
The announcement comes as regulatory pressure mounts on the shipping industry to reduce emissions, with the IMO targeting a 40% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030.
